On your way to Bascom Farm, you will find yourself driving down a dirt road which was definitely, for us, a far drive from the New Hampshire Food Bank in Manchester. Bascom Farm is nestled in Charlestown, NH which happens to be located in Sullivan County. The owners Donna and Dean Bascom take immense pride in keeping it local and supporting small agriculture. The farm produces a variety of vegetables as well as grass-fed katahdin sheep. On the farm’s website, Dean is even described as a sheep-whisperer!

The growing operation spans over 1.5 acres and consists of you guessed it, vegetables, herbs, and even shiitake mushrooms! This is an organic diversified farm, and the farmers’ main goal is to produce healthy, organic produce, and humanly raised, grass-fed lamb for their surrounding community. The farm has a commitment to managing the land’s soil, water, forests, and wildlife as sustainably as possible, and both owners have a deep understanding of soil science and are passionate about being stewards of the land on which they produce food.

Upon arriving to the farm, one is greeted by the sweetest corgi dogs: Tasha, and boys Buddha and Walter. You can tell the corgis run the farm alongside their owners, they are even featured in the farm’s logo! Make sure to check the farm’s website and social media, as this is not an open-to the public farm store. However, the owners are planning some pop-ups so stay tuned for that. The farm specialized in a CSA that runs from April to December, but also attend the Farmers’ Market of Keene during the summer.

If you do end up purchasing a CSA, visiting via one of the farm’s pop-ups or pre-orders, or end up going to the Farmers’ Market of Keene, make sure to stop in and stock up on all your favorite veggies! Also, make sure to ask Donna about her most recent recipe as she is an avid cook!

You can find Bascom Farm online via their website and Facebook.
